Tory in OSA

I thought I’d make a post telling the main things I have done for OSA, the Office of Special Affairs, for the organization calling itself 'the Church of Scientology', pre leaving in July, 2000 forever.

My actual first time was as I've posted, in Clearwater, Florida, in 1979. I've posted a great deal about that. I was asked to 'Handle' City Commissioner Richard Tenny, by Milte Wolfe who explained Scientology HAD come to Clearwater on a lie, and his entire position was: 'Scientology lies', so they needed ME, a public person, to fix it. Richard was running for mayor on the main ticket of, 'Save Sparkling Clearwater, Stamp out Scientology'. I basically just went around and talked to the public, went to meetings, etc. Result? Richard Tenny voted out of office. (I'm very sorry for being such a 'true believer', if he's reading this).

In the early '80's I was working at Apple School. During this time came the Finance Police, and TONS of people left C of S.

I was extremely upset about all of this, and went to OSA to please explain why? At this time I fully trusted OSA and had not a clue that they were in on these actions driving people OUT of Scientology. They had me listen to a tape by Hubbard called, "Individuation" where he explains by the nature of an Exec's work, they WILL commit overts or bad deeds. He says it's up to the public to ensure these same Exec's get Sec Checked and cleaned up.

Then I found out Bruce Bishop was going up to see David Mayo. I again worked trying to "save" them. OSA had an entire program that I didn't know about, but I assisted in it, knowingly and unknowingly. I knew I was upset that Bruce was connected to Mayo and I tried to make that known. I didn’t know OSA had an entire other program to squash them. Result? Apple School closed down. I will be forever sorry that I helped assist in their program.

I have told Bonnie Bishop and Bruce this, as well as many of the Executives from Apple School, and periodically I see them. They are doing great, and have all moved onto very successful lives, despite all that Scientology/OSA did to them.

In the mid 80's came the Portland Crusade against I ended up being Pat Gualterri's assistant, helping to put on the shows, and I was a 'Minister" in the courtroom, the day of the final scene. Result? I think OSA ended up screwing her out of the $$ that they owed.

Again, I apologize intensely for any assistance I gave to forward their feeble cause. Saying you are sorry doesn't do much, I know, but having seen some other people laugh about horrible things they did, I feel the least I can do is let people know I realize it wasn't right, and I ~am~sorry. I recognize I was 'just being a good Scientologist" as many have pointed out. It still doesn't make it right, and I want those who are continuing this crusade to realize there IS Karma after, and effects of what you are ACTUALLY doing vs. the hype you're being fed will be yours and yours only.

Around this same time I was asked to join CAN (The Cult Awareness Network) and I did. I got newsletters from them, and passed them onto OSA without ever reading one. What a true believer I was~ and here I cannot say enough how sorry I am for any assistance I gave in harming this group. I didn't realize at all what it really was. Later I was asked to sign some petition. I really had only heard the party line about deprogrammers, which they still spread. I know as Joel, who took over the Scientology 'Parishioners' League told ME that I was a deprogrammer, which is 100% false.

Then I was in the Wallersheim Courtroom, and at different events to try to "Handle the critics". Result? Wollersheim was eventually paid 8.5 MILLION dollars...but it took years of OSA hassling him, appealing, etc. I would not know of this result, except I left Scientology. I'm sure it is STILL hidden from many Scientologists as DM's Big line was: "Not ONE thin dime for Wallorsheim". He got WAY more than one thin dime!

Next: The David Mayo RICO trial, I was invited to be in the courtroom, where the critics had one side, C of S/OSA had the other.... in the Federal Court case to see if Mayo had to go to trial. Result? I found out after I left that Mayo was paid millions in a settlement.

Next? I think some 'critics' began picketing in LA, and I was asked over and over to go "Handle the critics". By this time I just considered them people, vs. "SP's" and was willing to talk with them, vs. the OSA tactics they were using, such as "What overts do you have!" etc. (I had never used those, and always thought those mob mentality deals were stupid). I even wrote it up to Mike Rinder, hoping they would ACT more like the 'religion' they said they were. I heard NOTHING back.

Next? Keith Henson began walking around the Complex carrying a sign about Xenu. I spent some hours walking with him, asking him why? Why was he trying to hurt our religion, etc. He finally left, but I had no idea if he had just gotten tired, or anything I had said helped. My guess is the first.

Then the next major one was this CC one that I recall. This was HUGE for me, as I had a ~long~ conversation with Snefru (seen in the photo) where he just kept nicely asking me questions, and many stuck in my head later. Many of the critics I’d met seemed pretty hostile and thus I’d never hear what they said. However, here Snefru was quite kind, quite confident in what he was asking me, and listened well, too. Result? Again, eventually they left, and I told OSA, "They're just people!" I was starting to like these folks, but I still would not admit it to myself.

While up in Seattle I went to a Scientology mission. There, some critics were picketing. The staff were all terrified, and some guy who knew me from LA said, "Oh! Tory is here...maybe she’ll help us, she's VERY good".

I said sure, and headed out to try to "Handle the critics". (Pre coming there I had stopped off at a beauty salon to get my hair trimmed, but didn't have time for here to blow dry it, due to my flight back to LA. So my hair was wet). After trying to talk with these two critics, and both snarling at me, I finally asked the one guy, "How do you like my hair?" He wouldn't answer, finally said, I don't know". At this point, I really wanted his opinion. I said, "Sure you do, LOOK". He burst out laughing, and said, "My mom used to always ask me that, and I never knew what to say"> I smiled and said, "I know". He looked at his friend holding the Xenu doll and said, "Let's go home". They walked off, and I went inside.

The staff all applauded and were amazed that I'd so quickly "Handled" their enemies. They asked, "What did you DO?" I said simply, "I asked him, "How do you like my hair?" Again, I explained to them, 'They’re JUST people!' And I went back to LA.

I later went home, and wrote that up to Mike Rinder as an example of how these are JUST PEOPLE!!!! and IF they'd stop acting like idiots and apply their own tools of communication, and kindness, perhaps these "critics" wouldn't stay so long.

I never heard from him.

I then was asked to go march around I think it was Dennis Erlich's house with a sign lying about him. I refused, told the OSA person, Pam Shannon, that they were creating their own enemies.

Shortly after, I was asked to go "Handle a critic" at a 4th of July party, where Mark Bunker was there with a camera. Some OSA person had pulled this English guy and I had said, "Please just distract him".

So we went, I think there are videos of me speaking in a poor English accent (don't ask me why!) and BSing with him. At this event some other "OT's" Came up to me, told me "We've just smashed a magnet onto his lens and it will erase all his film". They thought that was VERY cool. I did not.

He had told me, "We are handling the critics on the Internet". I was asked to go open up phony Internet accounts, which "we will use to handle the people trying to destroy our religion". When I asked what they were going to do with these accounts, I was told by Bill (my good friend and auditor): "Tory, you don't want to know. If you know, they'll get you in court and depose you FOREVER. If you don't know, you can honestly say, "I don't know". I didn’t realize until I left that what he was describing was actually how the Office of Special Affairs Legal Dept. acts, and what they do to people re deposing people forever, lying about them, etc.

I had no reason at this time to disbelieve my auditor, and good friend, and he had showed me ARS, IRC and the "Suppression these people are doing".

One thing people probably don't realize is how this actually worked. I never ever really went onto ARS and read it. I would be over at Yaude's house socially and for years Bill would say, "Tory...come here...see this". I'd go into his office, he'd show me one thread with something I considered "suppressive"...and how he'd try to 'Handle it".

It seemed weird to me, I knew very little about computers, so I really didn't understand what was happening. All I knew was Bill seemed to get a great thrill out of 'handling these critics', and obviously had a big passion for what he was doing. At this time he was on ARS almost every morning, every night until 2 am or so, and all weekend long. He was on staff at the Enhancement Center in the afternoons.

When asked to open these accounts, I believed him that it was all for the good of Scientology.

As the weeks went on, things got more and more intense. As I’ve posted, I was asked to sign a waiver saying I would NEVER tell ANY auditor, ANY Ethics officer, ANY Executive, etc. To me it sounded like the Old G.O. Stuff, and I told Bill that. He merely said, 'Tory, do you HONESTLY Think I’d do ANYTIHNG illegal?' I still to this day think he sees nothing wrong in what this mafia group does. Ok, I signed it, and began opening up ‘anonymous accounts'.

However, this small handful of people got more and more mafia like. Fake names, phony addresses and phone numbers (for the accounts) and finally I was told not to EVER call "Bill by his name or Gavino on the phone." Bill was I think Mike, and Gavino was "Jack". After enough weird stuff occurred, I finally decided *I* had to go LOOK on ARS and see what exactly they were doing with these anonymous accounts Bill told me were "no big deal".

When I saw almost all of ARS spammed, I finally connected the dots and realized I had been used.

When I called Bill to tell him I had to quit the group, he told me ‘Fine… we just need you to do a 'debrief'. Meet us at the apt. Where Lizzy Apple and I had worked, in the last few weeks. I arrived to find a dark apt. with about 4-5 other 'OT’s', all men. Gavino came in Yelling about "I told you about HER Bill"...AND my auditor and best friend, Bill Yaude, agreed with him, and slammed me too, while with these other "OT's" sat there doing and saying nothing. Their silence spoke volumes to me. This truly was the essence of my biggest fear: They were lying to and about me, and even my auditor was in on these lies! This ended my Top Secret OSA Int days, as well as my friendship with the person I had considered for over 15 years to be one of my best friends.

It took me one more year to actually get onto the Internet to try to "Handle the people spreading bad PR about John Travolta", by myself. This was on a message board by Yahoo. I was told about this by a man at Author Services who called to tell me John was getting attacked and could I look at it?

I did this out of my home, and it became a passion of mine, as I had helped train JT and really liked him. I got onto the Internet in May, 2000 really re Battlefield Earth, and I personally got the Yahooo message board shut down,

Complaining there was too much religious junk, and who cared? Someone from Time/Warner in NYC called me the next day to tell me, 'We have heard your complaint and we agree. We’re taking down the BE Yahoo message boards'. This was a 'win' for me, but soon after I found myself missing these same critics~ they had an edge that Scientology did not. They were harsh, true, but I missed their freedom. I had joined Scientology as a Free Speech advocate, and now 30 years later found myself quite stopped from most freedoms I had arrived with.

A few days later I went onto ARS as Magoo, I think in late June. I know I was only on for 4 weeks, and I woke up during these mad posts, after talking with Andreas, as I've posted.

Ironically, even during this time, I was still ~supposed~ to be helping OSA as I was the Executive Director of The Scientology Parishioners League working for VP of C of S, Janet Weiland. I’d dropped my hat while talking with the critics on ARS. Literally a few days before I totally woke up and days later left C of S forever, I had a brief meeting with Janet Monday night. She told me I needed to get SPL going and I said, 'I'm working on my own Internet Project". To my shock, she never even asked what it was!

It was so "Don't ask, don't tell" at that time. The staffs were not allowed to know what we were doing to "Handle the critics", nor could they even go on the Internet.

I wasn't at this time working with OSA, but she just assumed I was, when really I was actually waking UP! Amazing, but true.

My dear friend Andreas had begun talking to me via e-mail and what he said ended up being the straw that broke the camels back. I had been waking up for 10 years prior, which isn’t part of this post, but what he said and asked me ended up totally cracking open my own tightly sealed Scio/Truman show.

Light came pouring in, and I sat all alone, seeing the walls for the first time. He never told me anything bad about Scientology. He merely said two things:

1) 'I believe in truth, I believe in looking at both sides, and I believe in having to courage to say what I know to be true. I don’t think Scientologists are bad, they are just misinformed'. By this time I KNEW he was totally true on this. Also, This IS how I began Scientology, and now, 30 years later, over $200,000 to them, and most of my life, I realized I had given up truth and freedom, for the con I had bought.

2) When I wrote him hysterical, realizing there was NO ONE I could talk to AT ALL (as most of the critics thought I was OSA and I knew I could not tell one friend. I told him, 'Andreas, IF I leave, I will probably lose ALL of my 30-year friends, and my husband of 27 years. I don’t know if my soul can take that'.

He wrote back a very kind e-mail, really telling me he was sorry for the pain I was going through, etc. However, he asked me ONE question that literally changed my life forever. He said: 'I don’t want to hurt your feelings, but I have to ask you this one question: 'what kind of friends could those be if they’re going to leave you because you’ve changed your mind?'

That was a rap for me. Sunlight came bounding into my soul as I felt I was awakening from a 30-year sleep almost. I could finally SEE the walls people had spoken to me about for years and years. Finally I could see the lies; I could see the con. I understood the conflict. I knew most of MY friends would stay, and I knew what I needed to do. Freedom isn’t something we can abuse. It is a gift we all must cherish and protect. I thought I was protecting it, fighting these critics. I’m sure the OSA ops spreading lies about me still feel that way. The only difference is I had the chance to SEE the lies; the fraud, the con, and I had the courage to do something about it. I thank God, my Mother and Father and Andreas for this courage. Without any one of those kind souls I doubt I’d be writing here today.

Since I have left, OSA has constantly tried to slime me by spreading lies about me, writing 'Black PR' about me to others, and here on ARS. They have called me up and harass me, break my turtles on my front porch, as well as other things. I wouldn’t doubt someone working for them assisted in making my four flat tires, as well as other Fair Game activities they’ve tried.

They also tried and failed to pin a Criminal Conviction on me for sitting in A Red Santa’s Chair, in Clearwater, Florida! They have now added me to their hate page, spreading slander, lies, and total falsehoods about my friend, Andreas and me.

Anyways, that's a brief summary of my OSA history, if you want to add it to the ToryMagoo.org site. It certainly shows what a true believer I was, all the way until the end when the Scio/Truman show burst open and light came pouring in.

I hope by posting this it 'may' help some who are inside and being asked to do things that they don’t quite feel right about doing, that the smartest thing to do is follow your own heart. Even that’s tricky, as I always felt I did.

I guess the best thing to do is make sure you study BOTH sides, and know who you are supporting.
