Transcript of 3 minutes on Danmarks Radio - TV 1 -Sunday TV 21.00

Headlines

Hostess: Scientology is accused of brainwashing and complusion - but there is nothing to it, says the president who has just been visiting Denmark.

(after news about the death of King Hussein)

Hostess: The religious sect Scientology is constantly criticized because of itīs methods. The President of Scientology has just been visiting Denmark, and we asked him to relate to parts of the criticism:

Heber Jentzsch: "Did you realize that LRH has more than 120 million copies of his work out there in the hands of the public, and that it is growing all the time. "Dianetics" alone has sold over 18 mio copies and has translated into 34 languages. No - Scientology is here to stay."

Reporter Flemming Platz: (voice over - you see the exhibition in Jernbanegade 6 and the OSA-agens Anette Refstrup togeter with Heber J. studying the wall sheets together with a lot of young people in white shirts and marine slip-overs)

It goes really well for Scientology, according to the president through 17 years, pastor Heber Jentzsch. 9 mil. people all over the world are members, but still more accusations of compulsion, brainwashing, physical and psychological desctruction of members, who donīt behave, makes scratches in the facade.

Telephone with former OSA, ex-scio Birgitta Dagnell, Malmö: First of all you are broken down by very little sleep and hardly any food. You are physically exhausted and very vulnerable in such a condition. All the time you are told you have no value. They have the so called e-meter - a kind of lie detector that they use for interrogation. They scream at you that you have done worse thing than you have told them. In the end you believe in it.

Reporter: This is how Birgitta Dagnell felt, when she, together with 80 other scinetologists was sent to the so called rehabilitation force in 1983. But hers and many other peoples reports are refused consequently by the president:

Question to Heber: You say that people come by their own free will. I have read many reports from people who say they were held isolated there in starvation, living in the same clothes for months and so forth.

Heber Jentzsch: Absolutely not true! Because the american internal revenue service IRS, on the way to explain to people here (looking around) is the most powerful agency for collecting taxes on earth, did the most careful investigation of all there points, and looked them over completely because they had hered the same things youīre talking about, and found that Scientology definitely is a religion, that these things were unfounded.

Reporter: But you tell me...why should all these people tell those horrible stories. What is their motive?

Heber Jentzsch: Money!

Reporter: From ...?

Heber Jentzsch: They are payed to do that. We have the affidavits to prove that. A number of them are payed to do that. (end of interview.)

Reporter: (voice over pictures from exhibition - New Era-employee Mimi Holm is talking to three very young peolpe in front of a wall sheet)

The president would rather talk about the 30 years anniversary this year and the new exhibition and campaign that is going on in Copenhagen these days. But the pleasure can soon have an end. (showing pictures of articles in El Pais, feb. 6 th)

The spanish newspaper El Pais wrote yesterday that Heber J. together with 17 other leaders of Scientology is now charged with imprisonment, physical and psychological assaults, compulsion, etc. The public prosecutor in Spain describes Scientology as an extremely dangerous organisation, and Heber J. alone tends to get 30 years of prison.

Hostess: We have, after the interview, tried to get a comment from Heber Jentzsch about the case in Spain, but it hasnīt been possible. Scientology in Denmark says that Heber J has only been to Spain once, and impossibly can be guilty as charged.

(THE END)
