Scientology and the Black Movement

"The Citizen's Commission on Human Rights. a group founded by Scientology. The same stuff is on their web site. All targeted specifically at blacks, telling them that psychiatrists are racist."

Dr. Carl C. Bell, M.D. on 60 Minutes, 2002;
also quoted in Psychology Today

Tom Cruises recent anti-psychiatry stance is no laughing matter, considering what Scientology has done to negatively effect mental health programs and legislation. As well, other celebrities in Scientology are not as vocal, but hold the same belief as a result of the teachings. The pattern of Scientology's recruiting African Americans legislators and other representatives may come disguised with concern for community-based issues, such as illiteracy; "human rights" or criminal justice.; or under the auspices of interfaith. As with any group, Scientology's recruitment of Black leaders affords the creation of another movement against anti-psychiatry and mental health.

Here are some organizations and individuals that Scientology is using to attack mental health and promote other programs:

Scientology and the "State of the African American Male"

Scientology and the Congressional Black Caucus

Scientology and the NAACP

Scientology and the The National Black Caucus of State Legislators (NBCSL)

Scientology Recruit ing and Using Black Celebrities

A more disturbing fact is, that there is no grass roots membership of African Americans in Scientology - and there are no Black leaders - and no Black congregations. There are no Black members in their ecclesiastical structure. While Scientology sells itself as a "humanitarian" group, the Black voice is not of their membership, but of those listed on countless Scientology webpages, "separately" supporting a common fight for unity. Black communities need to know that enhancing the charitable work of Scientology, also supports the suppression of their own human rights, and those that encourage the same.

Scientology created the anti-psychiatry group, Citizen's Commission on Human Rights (CCHR) who uses other groups to attacking federally funded programs that support psychiatry and have affected legislation in the United States to suppress mental health services for both Black and White people. The CCHR and their racist allegations against psychiatry are in retrospect what they are creating - by lauding and awarding others who adopt their message.

Closer examination of Scientology's efforts also shows that they are recruiting the Stormfront White Nationalist Community to suppress psychiatry and mental health programs. In more recent research, Lermanet staff has found a February 22, 2005 link between the Stormfront White Nationalist Community forum at stormfront.org and what appears to be the web pages of past President of Scientology Germany Sepp Hasslberger at http://www.newmediaexplorer.org/sepp/epidemics.htm. This was as of November 11, 2005. (For Stormfront: although some of the Scientologists' material may seem sensible, see the details of what happened with Willis Carto and the IHR at http://www.lermanet2.com/cisar/carto/index.htm.) As of December, 2005, Hasslberger's anti-psych propaganda is also linked to from a Scientology/CCHR related page, http://www.psychsearch.net/links.html

With the lack of Black Americans in membership, the relationship between early writings from the founder and author of Scientology training materials, L Ron Hubbard would seem an unfortunate and current reality in the way he describes the disturbing "handling, or training" of African American people. This statement is found in a book authored by Hubbard:

"Just as individuals can be seen, by observing nations, so we see the African tribesman, with his complete contempt for truth and his emphasis on brutality and savagery for others but not for himself, is a no-civilization."

-L. Ron Hubbard, Scientology: The Fundamentals of Thought, Bridge Publications: Los Angeles, 1997.

Another statement from the Scientology founder:

"You shouldn't be scrubbing the floor on your hands and knees. Get yourself a nigger; that's what they're born for."

-L Ron Hubbard, in a letter to first wife, Polly Grubb

It is the hope of Lermanet.com that you will understand the racial connotations and unfortunate role that Scientology uses the Black Movement to only benefit Scientology and the creation of hateful groups. Scientology is claims 8 million members in the press, but the reality is that numbers in the United States per this survey is 55,000. Where is the grass roots and leadership population of Black Scientologists, compared to the pictures of non-members on their websites, receiving awards and recognition for helping them attack psychiatry, and standing up for the Black movement?

Scientology's core teaching defies the statement they make about accepting the beliefs of other faith groups, Christian or otherwise - "Non-political in nature, Scientology welcomes individuals of any creed, race or nation." Rather unacceptable, is their belief - that problems in life are caused because the spirits of space aliens within the body - and only by the use of Scientology training can anyone be freed of them. The programs Scientology sells to it's members as "purification" is a to detox and prepare to remove these aliens, are merely renamed as secular under the guise of drug and prison rehabilitation. L Ron Hubbard's "study technology" prepares members the to communicate the language of Scientology that leads up to removing these alien beings, and is likewise promoted secularly under the guise of literacy. This is the basis of "social reform" in Scientology, and they need to spread this word to the masses through these programs.

Particular areas that Scientology recruits African Americans is through their literacy, drug and criminal rehabilitation programs - and they have been repeatedly rejected across the United States, by other political representatives; yet they emerge again with a new name, or conveniently without "Scientology's" name. All of these programs teach Scientology. This is not only wrong, it is deceptive.

"There are a lot of opinions out there as to what is wrong with Earth, 1995. But if you really want to eliminate those problems all you have to do is work for the objectives that we, as members of the IAS, have set for the year 2000: Objective One - place Scientology at the absolute forefront of Society. Objective Two - eliminate psychiatry in all its forms. Let's get rid of psychiatry, and let's bring Scientology to every man, woman and child on this planet."

David Miscavige, Chairman of the Board RTC, 1995

CITIZENS COMMISSION ON HUMAN RIGHTS INTERNATIONAL Established in 1969 by the Church of Scientology to investigate and expose psychiatric violations of human rights

YOUR 'MOMENT OF TRUTH'

Dear friend of CCHR,

I know you would like to do everything possible to back up management's ongoing efforts to clear this planet. A key vector in this strategy is, of course, removing planetary suppression. In a word, that means getting rid of destructive psychiatric programs, treatments and philosophies.

At CCHR International we have a number of plans and projects coordinated to do just that. One of these is to see that the psychs are ...deprived of their unearned millions in appropriations..." (see "The Fight for Freedom" in the recent Ron Mag, Freedom Fighter). A terrific opportunity has just arisen that will help us do just that. There is an organization called the National Organization of Women Legislators (NOWL), and as the name implies, this group is made up of top woman legislators from local, state and the Federal Government. Senators, governors, congresswomen and others are members of this group.

They meet periodically and hear from speakers that they consider have issues of importance for their group. Their last conference drew 800 attendees. Their President recently called CCHR and asked if I would address their next meeting. Needless to say, I accepted.

This is a magnificent opportunity for CCHR to get its message delivered directly to some of the top policy makers in this country.

As with all such projects, energy is needed to make this fly. I want CCHR to become a member of this group so we can get our message out to this very important public on an ongoing basis about what psychiatry is doing to our schools, our courts and our civilization as a whole.

The meeting that I have been asked to address is in Washington, D.C. on February 4th. We need $l0.000 to become members of this group and to cover travel and lodging expenses associated with the conference. Ideally, I could bring others to help enlighten the numerous opinion leaders that will be at this conference. I will only be able to do this with your help.

Two years ago we started a similar project with the American Legislative Exchange Council (ALEC). ALEC is a national organization made up of legislators from every state as well as some federal legislators who meet and draft "model Legislation" for every state. The bean return for that has been enormous! CCHR has worked its way up the conditions at ALEC and recently got an article published by ALEC in opposition to mandated mental health parity which went to key state legislators who deal with health issues in their respective states. In addition, the ALEC membership has opened the door to meeting numerous legislators and other opinion leaders from around the country and enlig htening them on psychiatric fraud and patient abuse.

These kinds of comm lines are invaluable and having the opportunity to expand them to the members of the National Organization of Women Legislators is one we really do not want to pass up. Our target for the year 2000 is coming fast. We need these comm lines badly, and I'm asking you to help us with your fina ncial support. We urgently need your tax-deductible donation in the amount of $500 or above! For every person who contributes $1000 or more, a personal commendation will be written from myself to your ethics files.

This is your 'moment of truth'. Come the year 2000, I would like to be able to say that you helped CCHR carry out LRH's intentions as above. We need this now! Joining this organization and attending this upcoming conference will open numerous doors for CCHR to cut psychiatric funding in the coming years.

DO THIS TODAY!

Best
