From unclevirus@email.com Wed Sep 05 01:47:42 2001 In Scientology, a "hidden standard" is defined as follows: Hubbard, L. Ron HCOB 8 November 1965 Suppressives and Hidden Standards © 1991 L. Ron Hubbard Library A hidden standard is a problem a person thinks must be resolved before auditing can be seen to have worked. It's a standard by which to judge Scientology or auditing or the auditor. This hidden standard is always an old problem of long duration. It is a postulate-counter-postulate situation, the source of the counter-postulate was suppressive to the pc. Therefore you can always find a suppressive by finding a pc's hidden standard and following it back to when it began. You will find there a suppressive to the pc. Examples of hidden standards: 1. "Auditing is working because my eyesight is improving." 2. "Scientology works because I feel better about my weight". 3. "Scientology is not working because I haven't gotten over my desire to smoke." When a person is first introduced into Scientology, the person disseminating to him/her finds out what is "ruining" the person's life. This is done conversationally, and can be as casual as getting the person to describe what s/he would like to improve. The disseminator works to develop that desire to get the person to see how not accomplishing it would ruin his/her life. This is called a ruin; it consists of the desire vs. the non-attainment. There are unconscious factors that get activated relative to the ruin. I've talked about that aspect elsewhere. http://www.entheta.ca/caroline/papers.html (Scientology: Soul Hackers) Once the ruin has been established, the disseminator does not in any way disrupt the idea of the ruin, or attempt to deactivate the affect, but simply convinces the person that "Scientology can help him/her with that". At that point, the sale occurs and the person buys a book, does a course, etc. (Ref. HCO PL 23 October 1965 Dissemination Drill) The ruin as described above has exactly the same characteristics as a hidden standard. (See definition above.) As soon as the person starts the Bridge, such desires are relegated to "hidden standards", and are addressed only when they obstruct or inhibit Scientology's template programming (Bridge). The disseminator simply primes the pump, so to speak, to activate this mechanism which goes into play continually throughout the person's auditing up the Bridge. From Hubbard, L. Ron HCOB 18 August 1964 Clay Table Work Covering Clay Table Clearing in Detail © 1991 L. Ron Hubbard Library: Usually someone wanted to attain an improvement when he or she came into Scientology. This wished-for improvement, until achieved, remains as a hidden standard (by which one judges whether or not he has improved). If the wish is attained, then one "knows Scientology works." If the wish is not attained, then one isn't sure Scientology works. Wishes fall into two broad classes. I. Mental achievement. II. Physical achievement (including relief from illness). Before starting a major rundown (such as the L Rundowns) or Bridge step in Scientology, the person must be "set up" for that action. One of the questions that must be answered in the negative prior to starting these major actions is "Is there anything you want handled?" The reason for this is that the auditing rundown must be delivered exactly for itself--if the pc is using the thing he wants handled to measure his gain on a rundown, that hidden standard will spoil the result. The hidden standard points to a suppressive person, and it is absolutely essential that no such extraneous influence be present or factored in to Scientology's programming. In Scientology, when someone uses a "hidden standard", the psychological diagnosis basically boils down to either a PTS condition or an evil intention on the part of the pc. (PTS=Potential Trouble Source). Ref HCOB 1 May 1991 Issue XII Wants Handled Rundown Ref HCOB 1 May 1991 Issue XI Handling Hidden Standards with Expanded Dianetics Ref HCOPL 7 April 1970RE Green Form At all times, the desire of the pc for betterment must match the purpose of the next step on the Bridge. If the person's attention is on something other than his/her next Bridge step, this is addressed in various ways, such as review auditing, ethics, PTS handlings, etc. In this light it is easy to see how Hubbard translates a personal desire for betterment into a PTS condition. Whatever drew the person into Scientology to begin with is irrelevant except as it inhibits the person's progress through Hubbard's mind control system. Current "suppressive influences" are addressed with ethics technology. PTS handling must include getting the Scientologist to either "handle" the source of the antagonism so that the person is no longer antagonistic, or the Scientologist must disconnect from the source itself. Scientology does not "work" when such outside influences are involved. At OT 3 of Scientology's Bridge, Hubbard disclosed the root cause of suppression for every person on earth, as well as the supposed prototype for all "Suppressive Persons"(SPs). That prototype is Xenu, the villain of a planetary disaster that supposedly occurred 75 million years ago. All SPs in the current environment are in one way or another "dramatizing" the valence (identity) of Xenu. Every "enemy" to Scientology, such as psychiatrists, critics to Scientology, etc., are given a psychological diagnosis with a root cause in this sci fi incident. Members of Hubbard's elite organization, the Sea Org, also have roles in this incident. They were (and are) of course the good guys--the Loyal Officers. Scientology capitalizes on personal desires for betterment and promises their attainment. At the same time, any failure in attainment through Scientology can be attributed to outside causes or influences, which have as their root, Xenu and the OT 3 incident. Since Scientology holds the monopoly for resolving the degradation of mankind by means of the Bridge, all counter-efforts to the Scientology movement are by Hubbard's "fair game" decree, justifiable targets for destruction. © 2001 Caroline Letkeman Posted under Fair Use and in the Public Interest ________________________________________ decoding scientology propaganda http://www.entheta.ca/caroline/ caroline letkeman *antivirus* ________________________________________
